One of our adopted dogs needs ACL surgery

We got Bray in March 2005 from Ring Dog Rescue and could not have been prouder and more educated Pitbull parents ever since. While both of us have always been fans of the breed nothing drives home the message of love and loyalty more than having a Pitbull as a member of your family. Bray has been with us through happy moments and very sad moments bringing support and smiles to our faces. About two years ago Bray underwent a surgery to replace the ligament in her leg and we bravely went through the cost and rehab with the courage and loyalty she taught us. Back then it was tough but we pulled through and the surgeon gave her an A+ recovery. Now it is 2010 and with our love and loyalty unshaken we must go through the surgery again. However due to the economy over half of our income is lost and we need some help to offset the cost. We have been hard at work and some companies have donated products and we have some artists donating art but it is hard to determine how this will translate into cash for the operation. So please help if you can even if it is just a few dollars. Should we be extremely successful we will donate the surplus to Ring Dog Rescue in thanks for giving us such joy, pride, and most of all Bray.

Rokko and Bubbles — Missing since late December 2009!

REWARD FOR MISSING DOGS

"Rokko and Bubbles were last seen on December 29 around 5 or 6 in the morning on Atwater Rd. They took off together and have not been home since. Rokko is a 75 pound, 4 year old tan lab mix, neutered male with a brown leather collar and a tag. Bubbles is a 45 pound, 5 year old calico aussie mix, spayed female with a pink collar. Her left ear stands straight and her right ear is floppy. They have been spotted a few times on LaPrade Rd just off 6th Ave. Both are current on their vaccinations and registration. Neither have ever been away from home this long and they are very likely to be together. If found, seen, or any information, please contact us at any time day or night. They are very loved and very missed. "

Vote for Ring Dog for the chance to get featured in Smitty!

The dog SMITTY in the movie is a homeless dog from a house foreclosure. SMITTY travels across country and eventually ends up in a shelter in Iowa where he is rescued by a young boy, Ben, and his Grandpa. SMITTY makes a positive change in the life of the entire family that adopts him, like so many rescued dogs could do if they were only given the chance.

Bless the Bullys "Message to the Media"

The Message to the Media was created to give responsible pit bull owners the opportunity to show the American Pit Bull Terrier in its true form - as loving family companions and devoted service and therapy dogs.

Many people have requested a copy of Message to the Media to take to city council meetings where BSL (breed specific legislation) has been proposed to show city officials the "true" pit bull behind all the media hype.

This is also a great piece to send with your e-mail letters to city officials - most of whom have only been exposed to pit bulls through negative media. I also send it to biased reporters who, through their "journalism," continue to feed the negative pit bull stigma to the public.

Please watch and share the Message to the Media!

Strengthen The Animal Welfare Act

Currently, there is a loophole in animal welfare legislation that allows puppy mills to go without inspection and licensure if they sell puppies online. This means that these large-scale operations are free to mistreat and mishandle the dogs in their care, leaving them to languish until they are purchased. There is hope however: This past May, three U.S. Senators introduced the Puppy Uniform Protection and Safety (PUPS) Act to bring all commercial dog breeders under federal oversight. This groundbreaking legislation could immediately improve the lives of thousands of dogs suffering from lifetimes of confinement at the hands of the commercial breeding industry.

Tell your Senator to co-sponsor this bill and help bring it closer to becoming a national law.

What to do if you see someone's pet in a hot car

"Long story short, there are crazy people out there who just don't care what they subject their pets to and then there are those people who simply don't realize the dangers of leaving an animal in an unconditioned car on a hot day.

So, I've created a non confrontational way to deal with the problem. Today I created some fliers (you can download them at http://markadamsteam.homestead.com/dogs_in_cars_posters.html). One to put on the car where the pet is located and the other to fill out with make, model of car, license plate number and location of vehicle to take into the office of the store so that they can make a public announcement on the PA and get the owner to return to their vehicle. At that time, they will find the other notice that you have left on the car and hopefully, do something to help their pet.

I realize this does nothing to help the pet immediately but after my experience last year, I am seriously wanting not to get shot by an outraged pet owner and I encourage you to take the same measures.

Perhaps we can forward these to our neighboring rescue groups and get the word out. No pet deserves to die in a hot car and we can do something to help. Print a few out and just keep them in your car...just in case. I've included 2 color images you can print out or a black and white PDF. Sorry for the huge run-on email. This is just something I felt I had to do something about. Thanks!"

Is your dog Canine Good Citizenship certified?

Animal Farm Foundation is dedicated to promoting the positive image of the pit bull terrier. They offer a ton of great programs for rescues such as ours where we can receive grants and other support.

They currently offer a grant where we receive $300 for every dog adopted out through our rescue who has received their Canine Good Citizenship certification. Click here to read more about Canine Good Citizenship. It's a valuable and useful certification to have for your dog.

If you have a Ring Dog or know someone who does that has received their Canine Good Citizenship certification or would like to pursue it, please email us at ringdog@ringdogrescue.org. We'd love to submit your dog for the Animal Farm Foundation grant.
